The drive-over wireless charging feature that is offered as an option on the new Cayenne EV looks really handy! Who else is going to get this feature for their garage to charge their Cayenne EV? Remember, to spec your Cayenne EV with the Preparation for Porsche Wireless Charging ($250) so that the vehicle is ready for it when the Vehicle Charging Receiver Plate, and the Ground Charging Pad become available to order.

Preparation for Porsche Wireless Charging

Porsche Wireless Charging enables wireless charging of your vehicle with a charging power of up to 11 kW (AC). Once the vehicle is correctly positioned over the ground pad, the charging process starts automatically – completely cable-free. The system is designed for home use and, through integration with the My Porsche App, provides full transparency regarding charging status and history.

Note: Porsche Wireless Charging consists of three separately ordered components: (1) Preparation for Porsche Wireless Charging; (2) Vehicle Charging Receiver Plate; and (3) Ground Charging Pad.

Preparation for Porsche Wireless Charging (1) is required during configuration to retrofit a vehicle with Vehicle Charging Receiver Plate (2) when it becomes available. Preparation for Porsche Wireless Charging is available as a stand-alone option and within Premium Package.

Vehicle charging receiver plate (2) and ground charging pad (3) are planned to be available in late 2026.

I will probably get the preparation just in case, but I think this type of charging wirelessly will come at some serious effeciency loss in comparison to cable charging. Example like it will consume 14kw at your energy meter, but the car only charges at 11kw because it has to be converted to wireless charging just like your cellphone wireless charging and it will also probably get pretty damn hot. But we shall see.

I hadn't thought of the efficiency loss. It's worth it for my wife's car, since she wouldn't have to worry about planning ahead. I'm much more disciplined there and can make a habit of plugging in daily or as needed.
